Coronavirus: The 2020’s Curse

The Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) has been taking over the world and is considered the next big pandemic to cause a significant threat to the mankind. The world is facing humanity’s biggest crisis since World War II and these are unprecedented times that we all are going through. The coronavirus has attacked us socially, emotionally, physically, and economically becoming the biggest ever a menace to the human society in the recent past.

The virus has reached the other parts of the world after it outgrew in the city of Wuhan, China -and since then it has become a major threat to people’s lives across the globe and is one of the most solid concerns right now for the human race. In the last few months, it has gone everywhere and corona’s epicenter has been shifted from China to Europe to the United States (U.S).

What Is Coronavirus: Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans. Moreover, older people and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and chronic respiratory disease are more likely to develop serious illness.

Till date, over 78 lakh people had been affected by COVID-19 and more than 4 lakh people had died worldwide. Indirectly Billions of people have been suffering from the impact of the global pandemic of the coronavirus. What is alarming is that the numbers likely stem from under-reporting, and may probably rise alarmingly in the weeks ahead if we factor in asymptomatic patients and rapid tests. Given that epidemic-driven crisis is constantly changing, countries are desperate to flattening the curve for Covid-19.

Also, what’s worse is that Coronavirus is not only instilling fear of the ‘End of the World’ in our minds, but it is also bringing a major impact on different industries and crashing the global economy. Just as no industry operates in isolation, no economy operates in isolation. In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, China’s moment of crisis is causing a ripple effect across the globe.

The foremost industry that is withering away because of the virus is the manufacturing and logistics sector. 1 out of 5 manufacturing companies rely on the china market for the supply of goods and materials required for production. In addition to travel and tourism, the one responsible for 10% of the world’s GDP and jobs, is yet another sector seeing the worst of coronavirus effects on industries. Also, the South and Southeast Asian countries are no exception. They are also heavily affected, health or otherwise.

At this time, there are no specific vaccines or treatments for Covid-19. However, so many ongoing clinical trials and tests are being performed by the scientists for evaluating potential treatments. Hence, sooner the people can be accurately tested and isolated from others, the better we can control the coronavirus.

Lastly, we hope that all this ends very soon and we all remain indoors, remain healthy, and remain clean and safe. Spend your precious time with your precious family members and make the most of it!
